Katagiri Seiryudo is a long-established Chinese medicine specialty store located on a land between the eastern side of Kishu Kaido Road and Hankai Tram Line. There are registered nation’s tangible cultural properties, the main house built in the Edo Period(around 1804 to 1818, wooden flat structure, storage room located on the upper floor), ‘Naka no Kura'(the center warehouse, around 1848 to 1854, two-story earthern structure), ‘Higashi no Kura’ (the eastern warehouse, flat earthern structure), ‘Nishi no Kura’ (two-story earthern structure) and ‘Mari Shisonten Jinsha Byo’ (a small shrine, flat wooden structure). The garden on the eastern side of the main house is not just an appreciation-oriented forest and spring style but there are facilities related to tea ceremony room such as ‘koshikake-machiai’, a simple styled bench for guests to wait for a tea ceremony and ‘Suna Secchin’,an ornamental powder room are installed. This is an important example of a tea ceremony garden at a madecal family in the Edo Period.
