The headquarters of Osaka Gas from the early Showa period. Steel reinforced concrete structure, locates on the corner of the intersection of Midosuji and Hiranomachi Dori Streets. It was designed by Takeo Yasui and was constructed by Obayashi Corporation. The black granite from Nakoso and white granite from Inada are furnished on the outer wall of the first and second floor levels, white tiling on the upper level. Stainless steel which was rare at that time was imported from Germany and applied for the window sashes. The finest building materials were collected from in and outside of the country. This is one of the good examples of modern architecture at a transitional period, sophisticated designs can be seen in both exteriors and interiors. Osaka Gas Building (commonly called ‘Gas-Biru’) had a number of facilities that general citizens could utilize, such as the gas-fitting show room, auditorium hall, beauty parlor, tearoom, cooking school, restaurant, etc. to contribute for the purpose of popularizing the gas culture to the public.
