Outline explanation

The Shoko-kan (former laundry and tasting room) is the only remaining wooden building from the founding of the Shoin School in 1918. It is an elegant building with a half-gabled roof and a half-timbered exterior. The exterior of the building displays the characteristics of Taisho period architecture that favoured the Western style. In 2015, as part of the school’s 100th anniversary celebrations, the building was moved near the main gate using the traditional towing method.
