The main building was constructed as the administrative office of newly developed rice field so called ‘Sekiun Biraki’ in the early Edo Period, and was rennovated as a residencial house in the late years. The ‘Zashiki'(reception) Ridge was buit as a living when The Tsutsuis shifted their main residence here in the mid Edo Period. It was renovated as a Zashiki when it was connected to the main building. Beside the main and the Zashiki ridges, the three and three-quarters tatami mat-size teahouse, Monnagaya (a gate and long house for vassals), Dozo(the earthen-wall building style warehouse) with formal kawara tile roofing and the Earthern Walls surrounds the garden in the eastern side are registered as tangible cultural properties. The Tsutsuis are descendant of Junkei Tsutsui who was a busho (Japanese military commander), they took over the Sekishu-ryu tea ceremony schools that regard Sadamasa KATAGIRI as an original founder. The Tsutsuis are an old family that greatly value the culture and interaction with people, including the interaction with Byakuren Yanagihara.
