Outline explanation

The house was originally built in the town of Nose, Hono County, and was moved in 1960. Although no memorial plaque or building plan remains, it is believed that the house was built in the mid-Edo period (1603-1868). The front gable bears the family crest: a bellflower in a circle with a turnip-shaped fish attached. This is the Setan style, so called because it is found in the area bordering the former provinces of Settsu and Tanba. The house plan is divided into two halves. Along the dirt floor are three rooms arranged in a line: the tatami room, the kitchen and the storage room.
