The Nishiyamas Residence is located almost in the center of Okamachi residencial area which was developed by Mino-Arima Electric Tramline, the predecessor of Hankyu Railway, and Takenaka Corporation in 1912. The Main House in 1912, followed by the Western-style house in around 1915, and in 1929, they constructed the detached reception room under the execusion of Kawasaki-Gumi, a domestic construction company. The renovation of the Western style building and the tea room, and newly the connecting corridor and the waiting space were built by Takao Okada, an engineer from Mitsukoshi Osaka Branch in 1939 and 1940. Furthermore, by making the dry landscape garden by Mirei Shigemori, a famous modern landscape gardener and Junichiro Kawasaki, a gadener from Kyoto, The Nishiyamas created a space that the modern sukiya* and the garden harmonize splendidly. *sukiya: an architectural style based on the style of a Japanese tea ceremony building
