Outline explanation

The Kaguraden (Noh stage) of the Sumiyoshi shrine was originally built in 1898 as a facility for the Osaka Museum (now the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry) to watch Noh plays, and is the oldest Noh stage in Osaka. It was moved to the precincts of Osaka Temmangu Shrine in 1927 to make way for the relocation of the museum, and in 1981,when the shrine underwent a major renovation in the Showa period, it was transferred from Temmangu Shrine to its actual site and reconstructed. The copper platted roof is of irimoya construction (Hipped roof and gables) , and is made entirely of Japanese cypress in the traditional style. It was designed by Yokichi OKAZAKI, an Osaka Prefecture engineer, with INOUE Setsu as construction supervisor and Choemon ZOGA of Kyoto as the master builder.
