Outline explanation

Ogawa & Co. Ltd. was founded in Osaka in 1893 (Meiji 26). Ogawa is the oldest company in Japan that specializes in flavor and fragrances. Otohiko Honma designed the Osaka Office building which was completed in 1930 (Showa 5). It is a three-story, one basement building supported by a reinforced concrete rigid frame. One aspect of this building’s unique design is the arched canopies which intersect the windows on the façade. There are also geometric motifs which can be found in the design of the octagonal stained glass, decorative external lights, and overall ornamentation. The entire building was designed in the Art Deco style which was prevalent in the West during this era. The Art Deco style was also known as the 1925 style, and its design characteristics emphasize geometry, linearity, rationality, and functionality. Ogawa quickly adopted and reinterpreted a trending international design style. It is an architecture which feels innovative even in the modern day.
