Outline explanation

Catholic Toyonaka Church was built in Showa 14 as a point of Hokusetu (nothern area of Osaka prefecture). The designer is Jan Josef Svagr. He came to Japan with Antonin Raymond to work on the Imperial Hotel with Frank Lloyd Wright. During his stay in Japan he designed many churches, and Toyonaka Catholic Church was his last work. This church which is the main part of the sanctuary and Joseph Hall (Assembly room) were built orthogonally. The sanctuary has gabled roof, and the bell tower is surrounded with balustrade. The interior of the building which has three porches and has Japanese style designs such as log columns, cofferd ceiling, fold lift ceiling of the upper alter, and braided alter table is assertively taken. This church is a good example of wooden Japanese style church. In those days Japan was under the regime of war, thus it is said that the church was designed in Japanese style.
