Outline explanation

The existing Tsutenkaku Tower is the second one and it was completed in 1956. Its height including the length of the lightning rod is 108 meters. It was designed by Tachu NAITO who also worked on Nagoya Television Tower and Tokyo Tower that were constructed almost at about the same time. Tsutenkaku was named by Nangaku Fujisawa who was a Confucian scholar in the Meiji Period and it means ‘The high building that leading to the sky’. The first Tsutenkaku was burned down due to the spread of the fire from the nearby movie theater in 1943. But by the opinions from the local people who wished to revive the town of Shin-Sekai that the atomosphere had been dark since they lost their symbolic tower, Shin-Sekai Sightseeing Company was founded by the financial support of the domestic people in 1955, and Tsutenkaku Tower the second was constructed.
